I was somewhat surprised to read Councillor Tim Stevens comments regarding him demanding his "fair share" of PCSOs for the borough from the police (Borough Has PCSO Shortage Because They Are Too Good, News Shopper, March 28).

This appears to be nothing but a smokescreen by a Conservative councillor to deflect attention from the true issue around police numbers, namely that the Conservative Mayor of London and the Conservative-led government are to blame for any fall in police numbers in both Bromley and across London.

The Conservatives should be working with Londoners to do more to bring crime down.

Instead the opposite is happening.

The government is making 20 per cent cuts to police budgets, putting the Met Police Commissioner in an impossible position.

Mayor Boris Johnson claims police numbers will rise, but figures show the reverse.

By next year there will be 1,800 fewer police officers in London compared with when Boris Johnson was elected, the equivalent of 50 fewer in every London borough.

Bleat as they may, it’s the Conservatives that are to blame, regardless of their clumsy and inept attempts to apportion blame elsewhere.
