The true extent of the Olympic burden falling on the people of Greenwich and Lewisham is now clear.

Parking permits, 17 local stations overcrowded, road closures around Greenwich Arena, Greenwich Park and the Royal Artillery Barracks.

Our compulsory hospitality will be severely tested over a period of nearly two months.

There is not a lot which can be done about this now but TfL and LOCOG should at least make a stand and cancel the "Zil" lanes entirely.

These cover the A102, Shooter's Hill Road, Maze Hill, Charlton Park Lane and will result in the effective closure of the Blackwall Tunnel.

The Olympic "dignitaries" will doubtless fume and splutter if we do so but they're hardly likely to cancel the games as a consequence.

They'll just have to get up earlier.
