I write in response to Cllr Chris Taylor’s letter (Labour's Gay Marriage Lobby Rings Hollow, News Shopper, March 14).

As the mover of the original motion on gay marriage which was totally reworded, to make it acceptable to some Conservative councillors who still find true equality in 2012 difficult to support, I make no apologies for Labour members voting against an amended motion.

It made no mention of gay marriage, which was the essence of the original Labour mention.

What's more the Conservative motion implies support for forced marriage, abusive marriage and countless other immoral and cruel relationships.

As a gay man I am proud of Labour’s record on gay rights.

It is shame Bexley Conservatives cannot stand with their own prime minster who does support gay marriage.

As well as our council supporting minority communities, I also want the Conservatives to reverse the closure of three libraries, reverse reducing staff and opening hours at the remaining libraries and to halt the formation of a three tiered and privatised library service.
