As your star letter showed (Leaving Town After Parking Fine Farce, News Shopper, February 8), parking enforcement is an issue about which many myths exist.
But in Bexley we publish all the information so people can see the facts for themselves, and have been doing so since 2007.
The information is available to read in any library and on the council website.
The facts are:
Bexley issues the fourth fewest number of parking tickets in London.
The number of tickets issued in Bexley has fallen every year for the last four years.
The income to the council from all parking activity represents just 0.16 per cent of the entire council budget.
Parking restrictions themselves exist to keep the traffic flowing and improve road safety, with many restrictions introduced in response to requests from Bexley residents.
Cllr Peter Craske
Bexley Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety
