I was surprised to read the letter in the News Shopper suggesting that Boris Johnson wants to increase London police numbers (Tax Increases Under Labour Will Make Times Even Harder, News Shopper, February 15).

Is this the same Boris Johnson that admitted on LBC radio last month that he cut 1,700 police officers over the last two years?

Whether he's cutting front line police or increasing the cost of public transport, it's clear that in these tough times Mr Johnson does not have the interests of ordinary Londoners at heart.

Ken Livingstone's promise to reverse Mr Johnson's police cuts, to reduce the costs of public transport and to stand up to the Tory government cuts suggest that we should be electing him to the Mayor's job this May.
