I visited Bromley Central Library on Saturday.

Words nearly failed me, but when they came to me, they were: gloomy, dismal, dull, drab, uninspiring, shabby and unimaginative. Empty display boards, odd pieces of furniture lying around, totally devoid of any charm, colour or design. No effort has been made to make the place at least cheerful.

The colours are drab, the lighting poor and any attempt at display is pitiful. The display areas are left empty for weeks on end.

Surely it would be possible to display the efforts of the numerous art, photographic and craft societies in the borough to mount exhibitions throughout the year, plus schools could submit work - the list is endless.

All it takes is a bit of initiative on behalf of the library management to bring a bit of life into the premises at no great cost.
