QUEEN Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, has again made it into News Shopper (Bereavement Unit Pioneer Loses Job, August 30).

The story informed readers about maternity bereavement officer Ann Talbott being made redundant.

We met Ann earlier this year after losing our baby and cannot believe the myopic vision of the hospital management.

We have made use of the Charlotte Suite, where we had the opportunity to hold and spend valuable time with our baby in less clinical surroundings.

The work Ann has done in the hospital and through community links has benefited many vulnerable parents in tragic circumstances, giving them one person to speak to when they feel like speaking to no-one.

Unless the hospital management has gone through child bereavement they cannot possibly know what our needs are.

Although I have no doubt the hospital could do with more midwives, I feel the needs of bereaved parents are in some ways more important than those of parents blessed with healthy children.

We would still like to express our gratitude to all the midwives at the hospital who were involved in our care.

They were fantastic during and after birth but it was Ann who helped us to chase up the post-mortem examination results which helped my mental health state more than anything else.

The midwives will just not have time for this and trying to speak to the consultants and administrative staff is almost impossible.

They should make one of the pointless managers redundant to save the funding.

Thank you Ann, for all your hard work.
