I AGREE with Robert Roache's excellent letter Stop The Breeding (News Shopper, April 19).

In the light of the current bird flu threat he proposes an immediate ban on all further breeding and shooting of game birds, and in the interests of both human and animal health, I thoroughly endorse his viewpoint.

But even without the bird flu worries, isn't it time this barbaric "sport" was outlawed?

For what decent person can morally justify breeding these sentient birds simply to be released and shot?

And what decent person can derive pleasure from such killing?

Isn't it also time the churches condemned such cruel abuse of God's creation?
