I REFER to the reports concerning a petition to City Hall pleading for the B13 bus route to be altered, by re-routing it from Ramillies Road.

Re-routing the B13 from Ramillies Road, the section of the road connecting Blackfen Road with Sherwood Park Avenue, would impose undue hardship on the elderly.

For example, those suffering from heart problems, breathing difficulties, arthritis and other health problems which cause a handicap to walking are dependent upon this bus service to enable them to do their shopping.

It would be impossible for some elderly people to walk to the Oval or Blackfen Road to catch the B13 if the route was diverted there.

For those who could manage to walk to Blackfen Road, they face having to cross a busy road a frightening prospect for some elderly people.

It would also undoubtedly be an unwelcome addition to the already high volume of traffic approaching the traffic lights junction at Blackfen.

The B13 also provides a connection to nearby surgeries, for hospitals such as Queen Mary's and Sidcup and New Eltham railway station for those who have appointments in London.

There are also many residents who use the B13 to get to and from home, work or school.

The B13 bus route through Ramillies Road must be maintained.
