Recent articles regarding the so-called bus lane in Cray Avenue have clearly established what a mess Bromley has got itself into.

My wife received a penalty charge notice on March 8 for an alleged offence on March 2 at 3.32pm.

This was her first alleged offence of any type in 45 years of driving and you will appreciate, it came as quite a shock.

Although they are known as bus lanes I think a more appropriate name would be bus priority lane which most drivers respect and it should clearly be an offence to undertake any manoeuvre which in any way impedes the free passage of a bus.

No evidence has been provided a single bus has been delayed.

The London Borough of Bromley has admitted its error in the decision of this junction and it seems alien to any perception of justice that 6,147 motorists should be penalised as a result of this error.

A 5m extension should be reviewed alongside other urgent requirements to rectify changes which occurred recently, resulting in traffic delays of quite unacceptable proportions.

What is proposed is a case of polishing the door knocker when really the house needs underpinning.
