LAURA-JANE Filotrani is being very unfair to Norman Kember and to Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) who have had a presence in Iraq since before the US/UK invasion three years ago (Shooting From The Lip, News Shopper, April 5).
The figure of £1m it cost to free Norman Kember, James Loney and Harmeet Sooden is beyond belief and even it were remotely true, it pales into insignificance compared to the additional billions of dollars and pounds the war and subsequent occupation has cost taxpayers.
The comments Norman Kember and, by implication, CPT are misguided and have achieved nothing are common criticisms of those who engage in non-violent peacemaking.
