THE tearing up of front gardens and the laying down of block paving is making the water shortage worse.
In many cases the rain is diverted straight down the drains instead of into the ground, where it would help to raise the water table.
All block paving should be made to be pervious.
Water is the most vital element in our lives yet we make no provision for it.
Many homes have combination boilers which do not require tanks.
This means if the water supply is cut, there would be no reserves to call on.
I feel it should be made compulsory all new houses should have water butts fitted to their roof downpipes.
This would help save water for the garden and, in emergencies, for other uses.
Just ask yourself if the tap runs dry in your home, what are you going to do?
We should be doing something about it now.
