MATTER OF FACTS: After the word Eton in my letter (Old News, News Shopper, January 11), (sic) was added. Whether you consider the information obtained from the national press is doubtful is up to you. If on the other hand my spelling is considered to be wrong, both my Pears Cyclopaedia and Whitakers Almanac give Eton and not Eaton.

Editor's comment: In relation to the initial letter, you incorrectly stated Tony Blair's son attended Eton. He did not. He attended the London Oratory School. The sic' is used to alert readers when incorrect information is published within letters or quotes.

PRESERVE ICON: I was sorry to read about the future of the Clarendon Hotel (Historic Hotel Set To Become Flats, News Shopper, January 11). The article was of particular interest to me as my mother lived next door to the hotel from 1905 to 1915. The Clarendon is one of the icons of Gravesend and should be preserved.
