AS IT now appears this Government is of the opinion burning wood fuel is more environmentally-friendly than burning fossil fuels, is it not time to stop and consider the practice of disposing of wood cut down by tree surgeons?

I have just spent four hours listening to the noise of a petrol-driven wood grinder being used by tree surgeons removing two trees and grinding up the branches and parts of the trunk.

This, together with the noise of the saw, creates more noise pollution than a busy motorway and the smell of exhaust fumes does not help.

As the problem is a daily occurrence in this area, and, I suspect, in most other areas with suburban trees, it is time the law governing disposal of such waste was reviewed.

I believe the environment would have less pollution if the old practice of burning such waste was permitted again.

A good bonfire would dispose of such waste in a fraction of the time it takes a grinder and the smoke would be less unpleasant than petrol exhaust fumes.
