ALTHOUGH I was aware the incinerator inquiry had re-opened, I had seen no details of it in the press until I read a copy of News Shopper (Incinerator Inquiry Open Again, News Shopper, September 14), which gave over almost a full page to the inquiry, including "campaigners against are anxious as many people as possible attend."

We can also request an evening session: "The inquiry sits from 10am Tuesday to Friday."

So why when I tried to attend the day after reading the article, did I find the place deserted?

The day after the public get to hear about the venue and times none of the officials turn up.

There was not even a book in which we could make comments.

When I re-read the article I discovered I could telephone Diane Walker, which I did, she said: "They finished with their witnesses yesterday and the inquiry would re-start on Tuesday."

She also said the article said to contact the inquiry before attending, which it did not say.

Is it any wonder the public do not come to these inquiries when you turn up for nothing?
