AS A Conservative councillor on Bexley Council it is not often I speak to approve work of the Labour Council but we should all be big enough to do so when we feel it is rightly deserved.

Which is why I spoke to News Shopper and praised Bexley on its fight against race crimes in Northumberland Heath.

I believe all political parties should stand together to combat violent crime of any nature in this borough.

However, it seems News Shopper got things the wrong way round and thought I was congratulating the Labour-run council in all its crime-fighting activities. Which could not be further away from the truth.

Where shall I start? From the destruction of shop windows in Crayford, the smashing of the new doors at Central Library, Townley Road, Bexleyheath, before it has even officially been opened, shoplifting in Sidcup High Street, graffiti in Blackfen, the list is endless.

Anti-social behaviour is the blight of our lives and it has got worse in the past four years.

We hear more and more about increased police numbers but do we actually see more on the streets? Have you tried to get hold of your local police officer recently? It is a nightmare.

Bexley residents, do not be fooled. The Community Safety Partnership in this borough is costing you a great deal of money. I, for one, am demanding more action for your cash.
