Unlike D Johnson's letter Mind Your Language (News Shopper, May 25), Greenwich Council is pleased residents can benefit from council literature being translated into different languages.

We in Greenwich are proud of our diverse community and part of our commitment to being an inclusive authority is ensuring information about council services is not just for people with English as their first language.

The fact the translation service is well used by the borough's residents clearly demonstrates how valuable it is.

Also, we have a legal obligation under the Race Relations Act to provide information in an accessible way and offering a translation service is a means of meeting this. Other authorities in this country offer a similar service.
