I am writing regarding the opinion piece Is It Time To End Bonfire Night? (News Shopper, October 6)

I am 21 and live in an area of Downham every year we have fireworks going off at all hours of the night and day.

The noise does not bother me, however, I have a cat who is scared of people knocking on the door and runs upstairs of anyone enters the house.

Now that may be a slight bang to us people but to animals its a great explosion.

If Rachel Bradman thinks there are too many Victor Meldrew-types in the world, then what about the people who own pets?

It seems to me in Miss Bradman's mind people should just sit back and keep quiet while yobs terrorise our streets but this would be unfair to the animals.

Why should the animals be made to suffer?

I agree with Mr Rupert Smythe in the wrong hands fireworks are extremely dangerous and lethal and if people will not obey the guidelines set out for people's and animal's safety, then fireworks should be banned.
