WHERE DOES ONE GO?: With all the new housing being built in and around Woolwich one thing has been overlooked.

Where are all the coffee shops, wine bars and restaurants to cater for the type of lifestyle the new owners are going to want? I live in Plumstead Common and, as a young professional female, if I want to have a drink or dinner after work, I have to go to Blackheath or Greenwich. All Woolwich can offer is down-at-heel pubs, greasy spoon cafes and fast-food joints. This just will not be good enough for the incomers who are expected to pay at least £250,000 to live in these new homes. Just how much longer can Woolwich last as an everything-for-a-pound town?

A FLAT NO: I write regarding the possible conversion of 21 self-contained flats at Trinity Hospital Almshouses, High Bridge, Greenwich (News Shopper, August 11). I recently attended a fundraising event in aid of the Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice, Abbey Wood. My friend and I hoped to put our protest about the proposed accommodation across but we were disappointed to find nobody was there to give any information just a few charity stalls, refreshments and raffles. Who can I contact about this matter?
Mr J Morton, Grove Park

WORTH SAVING: Concerning the Trinity Hospital Almshouses I read and read again, but could not believe what I was reading. (News Shopper, August 11). To go into the buildings and garden was to step back in time. Shame on those who wish to ruin these beautiful gardens, please God, it will never happen. Keep the building and garden just as they are.

AGE OLD PROBLEM: I write to express my sadness over the possible closing of Age Concern, Lewisham, due to lack of funding. This wonderful organisation has been going for 50 years, advising elderley people in the borough. I am appealing to Lewisham Council, and to Mayor, Steve Bullock, to do all they can to keep this valuable organisation running.
