May we take this opportunity to comment on the possible closure of Woolwich Barracks (News Shopper, August 11).

If we can speak on behalf of many cast members of the first Music of the Night Musical Extravaganza, held at the front parade, Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich in 2001 and the second musical night held at the Royal Arsenal in 2003.

We are sure you would appreciate we have many people who would be deeply upset if we do not have a third in 2005, as a mark of respect to the Army at Woolwich.

If Conservative group deputy leader Councillor Spencer Drury and council leader Cllr Chris Roberts acknowledge the military's importance to the borough but admit it will be leaving, then why don't they hold discussions with the council and the Royal Artillery concerning the possible third musical night in 2005 to ensure the Army get a really good send-off?

We are sure it would get plenty of support from members of the cast and from the community.

Also, are they aware all profits from the event go to various appeals and charities?
