May I, through your letters page, express my thanks to all the good people who came to my assistance when I ended up flat on my face on the pedestrian crossing between Barclays and Natwest banks, Orpington High Street, on August 7.

Thanks to the young lady who wanted to drive me home, the gentleman who held tissues on my badly cut finger tip, the good ladies who supplied the tissues and Elastoplast's and the gentleman who hurried around to Superdrug to get a packet of plasters, and wouldn't take the money for them.

We may live in an age of yobbishness and crime but there are plenty of good people out there, ready to come to the aid of a fellow human being in distress.

Thanks again folks, I'm in my 80s and was badly shaken.

I would very much recommend a member of Bromley Council checking this crossing out. I wouldn't want anyone young or old to end up flat on their face like me.
