IAm getting sick to death of reading articles relating to speed cameras, bus lane cameras, traffic light cameras and congestion zone cameras.

Not because I condone the actions these cameras are supposed to police but because I am regularly reminded of their highly discriminative nature.

As with all law-enforcement cameras, they read the number plate but do not see the driving licence, tax disc, MOT or even who is driving.

This results in the fact only relatively law abiding drivers and car owners are traced and penalised.

In the case of the speed camera, this results in the issue of penalty points on the licence and could lead to an eventual ban.

Consequently the police may remove from the road, a driver who contributes insurance and tax.

With the increase of these cameras popping up all around, the legitimate, half-decent driver can look forward to the eventual prospect of, at some time, losing concentration and being caught.

Consequently those drivers who blatantly flout the law by illegally driving unregistered, untaxed, stolen, un-roadworthy cars through these cameras, can continue to enjoy not being traced.

When are our politicians going to wake up and realise they are penalising the half-decent people who make contributions while the scum who blatantly flout the law are having a party, laughing at us all?

The management of the cameras could issue statistics showing the percentage of untraced offenders but this would probably be too controversial for the public to accept.

There must be a fairer way to police our roads. After all, we all want to get the scum off the road and keep the decent motorists don't we?
