I would like to know who I Darling is (Letters, June 11), obviously someone who has never has the sole care of a very ill person for any length of time.

I Darling calls us lazy, selfish and apathetic. So, has this self-opinionated person ever experienced sleepless nights as a regular occurrence along with constant daytime vigilance and the stress of seeing a loved one deteriorate before your eyes.

Watching them suffer and trying to keep a home running and not being able to get help.

The lady to my right (at the Bromley NHS Primary Care Trust meeting) was nervous, uneasy and kept looking at her watch.

She had been desperate for her voice to be heard so, unable to get a sitter, had locked her mother in the house and was just praying she would be OK.

So I Darling, whoever you are, no — these people are not lazy, selfish and apathetic. Far from it. They are just exhausted to the point where they begin to feel they can sleep standing up.
