I have had another walk in the once-brilliant Crystal Palace Park and must ask: What is going on?

We have had two-and-a-half years of the regeneration project. Initially this promised good things and, perhaps, eventually we will see good things. But what of the rest?

The habitats of wildlife have been wiped out. Footpaths which turn into deep potholes in heavy rain and become dry and dusty in the heat have been laid and the popular children’s fairground has been disposed of. New shrubs and bushes were planted but I watched in disbelief as these same shrubs were taken up and tons of new soil deposited.

Who is paying for this incompetence? As council tax payers we have all seen our bill rise hugely but where is the public accountability? I wrote to my councillor a year ago, received an acknowledgement and the promise of reply. Since then nothing. Let’s see some pressure from a local press.

Every morning I walk my dog in Crystal Palace Park and have watched in amazement at the changes since February 2001.

When at last there were some flowers in bloom by the maze and behind the concert bowl, it made the wait worthwhile.

But during the past two weeks the flowers planted last year have been removed and it is a barren area again.

Now mounds of fresh soil and bark chips have appeared by the maze. What an incredible waste of time and money but then it is only council tax payers, National Heritage and Lottery money, so who cares?

Perhaps you can find out what is happening as I got nowhere when I asked.
