I AM trying to find information on a football player, Geoffrey Cecil Arthur Reynolds.
He was on Torquay United's books, but also played for York City and Charlton Athletic.
He was highly popular with York fans and played his last game for York in March 1944.
He died in August of that year from injuries suffered at Normandy.
We believe he was born in Lewisham on September 9, 1919, and his mother's maiden name was Hayward.
His address before his death was Finchamstead Road, Wokingham, Berkshire. He was a sergeant in the Household Cavalry.
It is the intention to put up memorial plaques at York City for him and other players who lost their lives in wartime, and also hold some kind of ceremony to which relatives will be invited to come along.
I would love to hear from any relatives in order to ask permission to commemorate him in this way.
They can call me on 01347 822964.
Bob Burns, York
