The national minimum wage is set to rise by 20p an hour.
The government announced that those on the lowest pay are set to see a boost in their pay packet by an extra 20p.
This means workers can look forward to being paid £6.70 an hour from October.
MORE TOP STORIES The hike, equivalent to 3 per cent, is set to benefit 1.4 million low paid workers.
Rates for apprentices and young people are also set to increase.
The hourly rate for 16 – 17 year olds will rise by 8p to £3.87, a 2 per cent rise, while those aged 18 – 20 will receive £5.30, compared to £5.13, a three per cent increase.
The statutory minimum for apprentices will jump by 57p to £3.30, an increase of 20% - the biggest ever rise.
The increases were recommended by the Low Pay Commission.
