The average person receives six of these calls a week.

Almost half of people (45 per cent) do not answer their landline during the day to avoid the problem.

Almost a quarter (24 per cent) have resorted to unplugging their phone to get some respite from nuisance callers.

Nearly nine in 10 telecoms users (87 per cent) receive calls from withheld numbers, with 40 per cent receiving them at least once a week and nine per cent at least one a day.
