Letter to the editor: I was very sad to read the article about BETHS Kart Club and its possible demise (Kart club fears hitting dead end, September 17).

I started BETHS Kart Club in about 1982, so it has been running for some 32 years. I went on to run a similar club at the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe. Many of our drivers went on to become top engineers. I hope that Bexley can come up with a suitable venue to keep such a long-running voluntary educational activity.

Our first kart I built in the D and T department and shipped out to Bexley’s twin town in Evry France to show off our activities to the French.

I am very proud to have been associated with this organisation and hope it will continue to support the hundreds of hard working volunteers who have kept the National Schools Karting Association running all over the country for more than 40 years.
