Letter to the editor: It is fantastic news that, as the new term begins, from day one hundreds of children in Lewisham will benefit from free school meals. What is more, school meals are now more healthy and nutritious than they used to be.
All reception, year 1 and year 2 primary schoolchildren across the country will now be able to enjoy free school meals. This policy has been five years in the making with successful pilot schemes reaping real benefits in the classroom and leading to improved educational attainment.
The government has put £1bn of new revenue into the scheme.
This would never have happened without the Liberal Democrats in government, who are working to produce not just a stronger economy but a fairer society too.
