Letter to the editor: The new bus for London has acquired the name “Roastmaster” because of the lack of windows you can open on the top deck and the stifling heat experienced by passengers on hot days.

Despite promises that the air cooling would be fixed, Transport for London had more than 75 official complaints in June/July.

The truth is that the air cooling is working as hard as it can, but the Boris bus is designed badly.

It is built for people who like looking at buses, rather than people who have to use them.

It cost Londoners more than £50,000 more per bus than a regular diesel/electric vehicle and when the rear doors are open, we have to pay a health and safety person £30,000 a year to stop people falling off.

Instead of wasting millions on this vanity project, the Mayor should have invested this money in a fleet of electric buses.
