Letter to the editor: I think transport in the borough of Bexley is appalling.

Bexley residents pay the same rate to the London council as all other London boroughs and yet we do not have access to tube links.

Other boroughs (for example Uxbridge) have the Tube, but are not a London borough and do not pay the rate.

I know this is only a nominal rate but even so.

I was brought up in west London in Acton, which has no fewer than seven stations.

It has three main line stations: Acton Central, South Acton and Acton Mainline. In addition, there are four Tube stations: West Acton, North Acton, East Acton and Acton Town.

I now live in Erith with only one station and there is no joined-up thinking for that line at the weekends.

The trains often run to Cannon Street on a Saturday and Sunday.

However, Cannon Street Tube station is closed at weekends so there is no interchange to the Tube system there. You either walk to Monument or Bank or get off at London Bridge.

My parents still live in West London in Hanwell and for me to travel there (using Transport for London’s journey planner) it is a train from Erith or Barnehurst to London Bridge, Jubilee tube to Baker Street, Bakerloo line to Paddington, Mainline train to Ealing Broadway and a bus to Hanwell. The journey is very rarely less than two hours.

I am hoping the new Crossrail (that originally was ending at Erith but now is Abbey Wood) will shorten the journey for me. Travel by car takes even longer on a weekday so is out of the question.

Better transport links for Bexley please.
