Letter to the editor: I feel I must respond to David Hughes’ letter (Poverty also exists in well-off areas, August 27).

Frankly, I am not surprised about the response from Councillor Tickner. I think you will find most councillors are aware of this poverty, but they are all in a comfort zone.

I doubt you will see one of them going to the food bank. At the end of the day they go home to a nice house and sleep in a nice bed. The funding for the food banks could be achieved by cutting the excessive wages these councillors get.

Maybe then they would realise that, yes, there really is poverty in our borough. But do not hold your breath on it, and do not expect soon to see the likes of Councillor Tickner or Stephen Carr queuing up for a tin of food.
