Letter to the editor: I stopped using Southeastern trains on a regular basis in November 2001 when I left my then employment and joined a company in a rural area.

However, Mr Taylor’s letter brought to mind something that a former rail employee said to me on a number of occasions when the state of the railway carriages became an increasing problem.

I was told: “The trains do not leave the litter”, or words to that effect.

The cause of the problem is not Southeastern or the lack of cleaning staff.

It is the inability of the passengers to depose of their own personal rubbish properly.

All trains have waste bins and there are plenty available on station platforms so why is it so difficult for the passengers to use them?
