On Friday 21 March, almost 900 students and over 100 staff took part in the Sport Relief mile on the Bexleyheath campus. This amazing event was well organised by the Physical Education department and Mr Burkett, Assistant vice Principal, with over £2,500 raised as a result.

Banners were placed around the entire school campus, to encourage students to take part in this worthy event and also, show the way for the sponsored run. There were students from every year group participating, to show their support for sports relief; as well as the teachers and senior management staff running alongside their fellow students. Mr Carl Wakefield, the head teacher of the academy, expressed his appreciation ‘As always, the students were extremely well behaved, supported one another and did themselves and our Academy proud!’ This quote concludes the admiration and gratitude enforced to help every student strive and better their future and other pupils attending the Academy. This is a great opportunity for the younger generation to help support charities in need and in many ways keep fit and healthy. The students and teachers dressed in true sports attire, as they sprinted, jogged, walked and stumbled across the finish line.

Sports relief is an amazing charity helping many people both in and outside of the United Kingdom. Here are just a few ways that they improve the lives of millions of people around the world:

• Improves the lives of vulnerable young people in the UK, and enables some of the world’s poorest people to gain access to vital services such as health and education
• Reduces violence, abuse and exploitation
• Tackles financial poverty, enabling economic resilience in families and communities
• Supports the enterprise and employment of people that need it most

The amazing £2500 raised by Bexleyheath Academy, has contributed greatly to the astonishing overall amount of £53,370,743! This money will change countless lives forever, both at home in the UK and across the world.
