Letter to the editor: With reference to recent readers’ letters regarding the proposed new bridge from Beckton to Thamesmead, I wanted to share my experience.

On May 24, it took our coach over three-and-a-half hours to travel on the M25 from the London Gateway and over the Dartford Bridge, being fully aware the same conditions were being experienced via the Blackwall Tunnel route.

Anyone suggesting another crossing in this area is not urgently required needs their head examined as it is vital to have inter-county economic and emergency support.

Looking at the problem logically, the Blackwall route to the A2 is already at capacity, which means the traffic from The O2 will have no alternative but to use the lower road, leading to further unwanted congestion in the area.
