Letter to the editor: I was greatly moved and inspired by the recollections of Baroness Thatcher’s life during the past week and would like to propose a Margaret Thatcher Day when we try to do positive things to commemorate her leadership.

Here are a few of my ideas:

1. Get into conversation with a homeless person and regale them with descriptions of just how comfortable your home/life is.

2. Why not hold a spare bedroom party — the venue won’t cost a penny.

3. On the day, go out of your way to support successful, thrusting businesses which pay no corporation tax here.

4. Organise a day out (in a chauffeur-driven roller perhaps) to any ex-industrial or mining town and picnic with hampers from Fortnum & Mason. The townspeople will clear any rubbish.

5. The main message from the day will be “if your life is in an economic mess it is probably all your own fault, get on with it”.
