Letter to the editor: Brazil suffers from developer syndrome.

They have dug up the land, stripped the rainforest and killed off the wildlife.

In Lagos, Nigeria, the population was in the region of 300,000 during the 1960s.

Now it is more than 20 million, resulting in polluted rivers, massive refuse tips everywhere and slums and shanty towns.

They call it a mega city just like Mexico City and Mumbai.

We are getting the same developer problems here.

They call it the London Gateway.

Springing up everywhere are families living in garages and industrial buildings.

The M25 and A2 run past Gravesend and there are plans to build a new motorway from Gravesend down to the river via a tunnel or over a bridge.

It will accommodate the extra traffic for the massive airport project in the Thames Estuary, close to the Isle of Grain.

We would suffer the pollution from the thousands of tonnes of emissions from the planes involved.

All these land-grabbing vultures want is the cash and to build without any consideration for anyone else.

Businessmen should reduce the use of airways and use the technology and facilities available.

We should not forget about the loss of our wonderful marshland and wildlife environment.

Once it is gone, it is lost forever.
