Letter to the editor: Fifty years ago, a fox was a rare sight in town.
Those were the days when you were lucky to have a fish and chip shop in your vicinity or even luckier to be able to get a sandwich in your nearest pub. Recently we were told there are too many fast-food outlets per head of population and many waft out strong cooking smells almost 24 hours a day.
Foxes can smell food over considerable distances.
It doesn’t take much intelligence to work out why the foxes are here.
Culling is not the answer.
I have walked a dog over High Elms almost daily for the past 40 years or so and I have never seen a fox over there. It doesn’t take much intelligence to work out why the foxes are here. These fast-food outlets need to be able to neutralise the stench of their cooking smells pervading the countryside. I lived in Cudham for close to 40 years and rarely saw a fox, now I look out of my window to see foxes all the time.
