Swimming super-star Amelia Brian has won medals in several events at the Newham & University of East London Meet recently and also swam for her club last weekend in the Kent Junior League and the Dartford Dash winning even more medals. Across the three competitions she achieved 5 PBs.

Amelia, a Year 7 Delamere student, regularly trains at Bexley and will soon be starting early morning sessions. Her heroine is her Mum, Marie Atkinson-Brian, who was an international swimmer and represented Great Britain at the World University Games, narrowly missing Olympic selection in 1996. Since retiring from competitive swimming her mother now works with England and GB senior teams and is one of the Team Managers for Team England at next year's Commonwealth Games.

Her proud mother said: “Amelia has made excellent swimming progress this year which coincided with her start at SCWA. We strongly believe much of this progress is due to the ethos at school and her gaining a new level of maturity and independence and applying this and hard work to not only school work but training too.”

Amelia is determined to emulate her mother’s success and her ambition is to represent Team GB in the Olympics. She will be competing again in the London Regional Open Water Championships (1.5k) which will be a new experience for her and has also been selected to represent the Borough of Bexley in the London Youth Games Aquathon.

Moving into the 2017-2018 season she is keen to participate in Biathlons and particularly the SE Regional Biathlon. Associate Principal, Anita Croft, said: “We are super-proud of Amelia and the whole Academy wish her good luck for her competitions; we are sure we will be cheering her on in the Olympics in years to come.”
