Ok, you might think that Woolwich is way off the map, but being only a 30-minute train ride from the centre it’s definitely London’s creative newcomer.

With an growing variety of exciting events, constantly developing public spaces, it’s surely a place worth visiting, and now you have a great excuse to do so.

In co-operation with artFix Woolwich, the Hungarian Cultural Centre in London presents some of the best Hungarian short films and animated shorts of the past few years on June 3 and 4 in the creative space of artFix.

The programme features the 2017 Oscar-winning short film, Sing, the student Oscar nominee Beautiful Figure, and the Oscar shortlisted Symphony No. 42, among other multi-award winning animations.

For many reasons animation has always been the flagship genre of Hungarian filmmaking.

In the communist era animation could always find a way to slip through the censors’ net, so it was almost the only platform where filmmakers could be relatively free.

Times have changed but animation is still going strong in Hungary and that’s why it gets such a big emphasis in the programme.

Not only can animation be a light and innocent way of entertaining kids, it also has great artistic potential, which can be used to communicate the most contemporary issues in our society.

Come and experience this yourself for free in the company of great Hungarian wines and food.
