Around one hundred people turned out on a perfect sunny April day to see the crowning of the three Hayes May Queens. The crowning took place at a sun drenched Hayes Library gardens. Isabel Cleveland (10) was crowned Queen of Hayes Village, Elizabeth Avenell (11) has now been crowned Queen of Hayes Common and Keely Harrington (12) was crowned Queen of Hayes.

A short parade through Hayes, following the crowning ceremonies, was lead by the John Tickle pipe band. The local police were on hand to stop and direct traffic to help keep the children and band safe while parading through the streets along with the parent marshals. Shortly after, we returned back to Old Hayes where there was a party for the children at the Village Hall.

Elizabeth Avenell, Queen of Hayes Common, said, “I am glad I’ve been able to continue such an old tradition that brings on the summer. Many thanks to my parents, family and friends who have helped organise this and help to provide things. It was very special for myself and others.”

There will be another parade through Hayes on May 13th when the crowning of the London May Queen takes place on Hayes Common which will also be attended by 16 other May Queen realms including the 3 Hayes groups.
