FILMBOX Community Cinema in Beckenham is soon to celebrate its 5th birthday with a free film festival open to all on 30 September 2017.

From starting in 2012 as a monthly community pop-up cinema for grown-ups in an 84-seater studio theatre and now in its 5th year, FILMBOX shows two films per night, at least twice a month.

To date they've shown 133 films, to over 15,000 people - the cinema is run by volunteers who have managed to create a professional cinema experience, which offers a wider choice of films, including World cinema, documentaries, indie films and classics, as well as catch-ups of current hits - with no popcorn mess - and a sociable bar, free parking and friendly faces.

They are going to celebrate their 5th birthday on Saturday 30 September 2017 with a free film festival - open to the whole community. Over 1000 patrons attended their first birthday film festival in 2013, so they're hoping for even more this year and are looking for local business sponsors for this event.

FILMBOX Community Cinema is 100% self-financing and began thanks to a £200 start-up grant from Bromley Arts Council.

They have supported local charities, such as Latch, Bromley Mencap, Food+ Bromley and Demelza House and national ones, such as MIND and MDNA.
