The 1life Community Fit Bus was officially launched on Saturday 14th January at Downham Health & Leisure Centre with the Young Mayor of Lewisham, Kayla Sh’ay. Local ward Councillors were also in attendance to show their support after funding sessions to take place this summer.

The 1life Community Fit Bus is a brand new initiative being spearheaded by the Health & Physical Activity Manager at Downham Health & Leisure Centre, Emma Greenslade. The 9-seater minibus will transport 2 instructors and a wealth of equipment to local parks, green spaces in housing estates and community groups. When there, the instructors will take sport and fitness sessions which the participants choose. Sessions are planned to be free, or a very low cost, so that cost isn’t a barrier for residents of Lewisham and Bromley. Due to the number of seats in the minibus there will also be the opportunity to transport people to sessions when needed.

On Saturday 14th January, the Young Mayor, Kayla, cut the red ribbon to officially open the bus. Local people were invited to take part in fitness, tennis and multi-sport sessions coached by three instructors.

Emma Greenslade is excited about the brand new initiative; “ Seeing the Fit Bus evolve from an idea on a piece of paper to a minibus with a lot of support behind it has been amazing! Can’t wait to see the Fit Bus delivering sessions in the community.”
