Bexleyheath and Crayford MP, Rt Hon David Evennett, attended the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust Afternoon tea on Tuesday 10th January 2017. The event was sponsored by Labour Whip Mark Tami MP.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national charity that helps young people who have suffered from cancer aged between 8 and 24 regain their confidence through sailing. It was founded in 2003 after Ellen MacArthur went sailing with ‘A Chacun Son Cap’, a French charity with the same aim. Since it was founded, the charity has helped more than 1,550 people, and now works with every young person’s principal treatment centre in the UK.
Mr Evennett met Ellen MacArthur, as well as Clive Stephen, Chair of Trustees, and young people that have been helped by the charity.
Mr Evennett commented: “The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust do tremendous work in changing the lives of young people for the better, rebuilding their confidence after cancer treatment. I am delighted to be here today to be able to hear from the people who have been helped by this fantastic charity.”
