Greenwich Dance is going into 2017 by expanding its popular series of evening classes at The Borough Hall on Royal Hill, with a new Hip Hop and Breakin’ class.

From Thursday 12 January, Greenwich Dance will host a new weekly evening class for budding Hip Hop and Breakin’ dancers, taught by experienced Bgirl Emma Houston.

This new five-week course, for adults of all levels aged 18+, is the perfect way to get active and have fun with dance, whilst learning more about hip hop dance and culture.

The course is taught by Emma Houston (aka Bgirl Shortbread) – an experienced breaker who competes in Breakin’ competitions nationally and internationally, reaching the IBE Bgirl 2v2 finals in 2014 and taking home the win in the 2015 competition named 'Blind Date battle'. Class tutor Emma Houston said: “Greenwich Dance’s new Hip Hop and Breakin’ course will be a high energy, fun and dynamic class with the music being the motivation for all that we create and discover. Be prepared to sweat, strengthen your body and learn the basics of what it takes to be a Breaker!”

Also starting this January is a new Beginners Ballet class - taught by expert tutor Renaud Wiser, who is a former dancer with Ballet National de Marseille, Gothenburg Ballet, Rambert and Bonachela Dance Company.

Hip Hop and Breakin’ and Beginners Ballet both join Greenwich Dance's diverse series of evening classes, where dancers can learn with experienced teachers within a friendly atmosphere. Other dance styles available include Ballroom, Ballet, Lindy Hop, Pilates, Salsa, Tango, Yoga and Zumba, with courses starting from Monday 9 January. Prices start from just £35 for 5 weeks, with no expensive gym membership or extras to buy.

For youngsters wanting to try hip hop and contemporary dance, Greenwich Dance also offer Saturday morning classes for 0-18 year olds, where they can be creative and express themselves whilst having fun and making new friends.

Executive Director and CEO of Greenwich Dance, Amanda Davey, said: “We’re always looking to offer a diverse and exciting range of courses here at Greenwich Dance – just one part of the work we do across the Royal Borough of Greenwich to bring dance to everyone.

“With such a thriving hip hop and street dance community across South East London, we can’t wait to introduce dancers of all levels to this high-energy dance style, here at our home in Greenwich!”
