For the second year running, volunteers from the Lewisham Islamic Centre will be serving free meals including tea, coffee and biscuits every evening from 9.00pm until Midnight from Friday the 23rd of December until Saturday the 31st of December 2016.

Mr Akande - a Trustee at Lewisham Islamic Centre - stated: "The airwaves are full of stories of homelessness particularly at this time of year. There are great tragedies occurring around the world like in Syria and Burma, and while we may not be able to directly intervene, we must remember that we are in a position to offer some much needed succour to many homeless, destitute and vulnerable persons in our society.

Shakeel Begg, Imam at Lewisham Islamic Centre stated "Helping the needy and vulnerable ones in our community is an important part of the Islamic Faith. Allah Almighty has said in the Qur'an: 'The righteous are those who feed the poor, the orphan and the captive for the love of God, saying: ‘We feed you for the sake of God Alone; we seek from you neither reward nor thanks' (76:8-9).

Lewisham Islamic Centre would like to welcome everyone irrespective of faith to come to the Mosque and feel part of the Lewisham Community.
