The Depot Manager of Universal Tyres’ dealership in Green Street Green Road, Dartford, has completed a once-in-a-lifetime trip aboard Michelin’s corporate jet to visit the tyre manufacturer’s global headquarters in France, after impressing during the 2016 Michelin Tyre Academy.

Rob Saltmer, 25, was nominated to take part in the Academy by Universal bosses, and went on to complete special training courses at Michelin plants in Dundee and Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year. On the back of his stellar performance, he was one of just six Academy students selected nationwide to make the international trip in December.

This final element of the Academy focused on leadership, sales and performance management techniques, as well as the importance of delivering an excellent consumer experience – all key ingredients for tyre dealerships within Michelin’s Certified Centre network.

Whilst in France, Rob was also treated to a 4X4 driving experience, where he got to test some of the latest generations of Michelin off-road tyres. He also enjoyed a private tour of Michelin’s motorsport showroom and purpose-built museum complex, L’Aventure Michelin, and an exclusive trip inside one of Michelin’s tyre factories.

Commenting on the experience, he says: “When I was offered a place in the Academy I never imagined I’d end up travelling on the Michelin corporate jet to France! The training and hands-on experience I’ve gained has taken my skills to a whole new level, and I’m looking forward to putting my improved knowledge to good use.”
