VIDEO: WWE fans become first couple to get engaged at Wrestlemania

A WRESTLING mad couple are getting hitched after a ringside proposal at Wrestlemania.

WWE fan Oliver Whittaker, of Forster Road Elmers End, flew out to Miami for the annual event which is the highlight of the wrestling world to pop the question to his girlfriend of eight years.

It was the first engagement ever to have taken place at Wrestlemania during its 28-year history.

The 25-year-old IT consultant met American born Maria Rosemberg, 22, on a wrestling internet forum and they arranged to meet in person soon after.

Since then they have kept their relationship going despite living on different continent, with Mr Whittaker flying to her home in Tennessee every three of four months.

He decided to surprise his wife-to-be, who is wheelchair bound, has a brain tumour and is blind in one eye, after arranging for her to meet her favourite wrestler CM Punk at a meet and greet session during Wrestlemania.

He said: “Because she’s been diagnosed with quite a lot of medical issues she’s never had a holiday before so I thought I’d take her out there. We’ve been together for so long I thought it would be the perfect time. We both love wrestling.

“I’m sure this will be the happiest event of our lives and she thoroughly deserves it after everything she’s gone through.

“Even though we live on the other side of the world to each other it doesn’t matter. We’re both so excited.”

The couple plan to marry in America as soon as Mr Whittaker gets his visa which they hope will be at the end of the year.
