NIGHTSTALKER accused Delroy Grant called his ex-wife “a liar” from the dock while she was giving evidence in court today.

Grant’s ex-wife Janet Watson told a jury she was “amazed” and “speechless” by claims she had framed him for a string of sex attacks and burglaries on elderly men and women.

Grant, of Brockley Mews, Brockley, is alleged to have carried out 29 offences on 18 victims across south-east London between 1992 and 2009.

The 53-year-old claims his ex-wife collected samples of his bodily fluids in syringes during their relationship.

Grant then alleges she used another man to commit the offences, leaving the defendant’s semen and saliva at the scenes of the attacks.

Jonathanm Laidlaw QC, prosecuting, said: “What was your reaction when you first heard the suggestion he was going to say you’d been behind all these offences?”

Mrs Watson, aged 53, said: “I was speechless and amazed. It was unbelievable that he could even consider that.”

At this point, Grant said from the dock “you’re a liar,” and was told to “remain quiet” by Judge Peter Rook QC.

When she was asked what her response was to what had just been said, she said: “I say he’s a storyteller.”

Woolwich Crown Court heard they married at St Lawrence Church in Bromley in October 1975, following “a whirlwind romance”.

Mrs Watson said Grant was her “prince charming”, but that the relationship turned “well sour”.

They had two sons, Delroy Junior Eastern Grant in February 1976 and Michael Anthony McDonald Grant in October 1978.

The couple separated in 1979 after his wife filed for divorce when Grant was sent to prison for an offence which was not revealed in court.

Mrs Watson said she had no understanding of DNA in the 70s or the storage of bodily fluids.

Mr Laidlaw said: “It’s suggested you had a white associate, a white male, who at your direction was committing these offences. Is there any truth in that?”

She replied: “No truth whatsoever.”

Grant denies 16 burglaries, two attempted burglaries, three rapes, one attempted rape, six indecent assaults, and one sexual assault.

The trial continues.
