The man accused of being the rapist Night Stalker told officers taking his finger prints not to bother because he always wore gloves.

Delroy Grant, 53, was arrested on Nov 15, 2009 in Shirley, Croydon.

The Vaxhall Safira he was driving was followed by undercover officers from Orchard Road before being stopped in Whitham Road, Beckenham.

Undercover officers stopped him and asked him his name, to which he replied Kelvin Grant.

He then later changed that to Delroy Eastman and when bank cards were found without his name on he said his name was Delroy Eastman Grant.

Detective Constable Andrew Stone, part of the team following Mr Grant, said: "Mr Grant got out of the vehicle. He was wearing dark clothes, quite disheveled and his trousers were undone.

"It looked like he was in a rush. The button and zip were undone."

While at Lewisham police station and being processed, Mr Grant was having his finger prints taken when he turned to an officer and said: "I don't know why you're bothering, I always wear gloves."

When asked under interview why he said this Mr Grant replied: "Because the officer was always making light jest comments. It was like jokes."

The trial continues.
